University of East London
UEL dates back to 1892 when the newly formed County of West Ham decided to establish a West Ham Technical Institute to serve the local community. The college provided science, engineering, and art courses, and also created its own in-house science and engineering degree courses, which were ratified by the University of London. University of East London Facilities
As the demand for technical education increased throughout the 1930s and 1940s, Essex County Council established two further colleges in Walthamstow and Dagenham (South West Essex Technical College and South East Essex Technical College). In 1970, these three colleges (West Ham, Walthamstow, and Dagenham) were merged in a further education college merger, to create North East London Polytechnic. The campuses have been modernized and revitalized by buildings such as the Arthur Edwards Building on the Stratford campus, completed in 1982.
In 1988 North East London Polytechnic became a higher education institution and was renamed Polytechnic of East London in 1989.
